"If I can reach out in distress, receive attuned comfort and care,
and am able to trust it and take it in,
I have everything I need to weather life's inevitable storms
and find creative solutions to life's challenges and problems" Diana Mudde LMSW, ACSW
Humans are social creatures. When we are in distress, our bodies and brains are wired to turn toward our trusted others to find comfort and care.....but so many things can contribute to having difficulties in this natural process. We may struggle to vulnerably reach out, respond well to our loved ones, and absorb care that is coming our way. Most of us come to our adult relationships with wounds that interrupt this process of connection. We may be hesitant to reach toward each other, we may become defensive or overwhelmed--making us less than attuned in our responses, and we may carry experiences of distrust which make us hesitant to take in another person's love and care.
All of us long to feel close and understood in our most important relationships, but often it can be difficult for couples and families to find a way into those feelings and emotional spaces.

Relationship Work--Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
I work with distressed relationships using an EFT framework. I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy and utilize this compassionate and dynamic modality when working with emotion in session as well as the behaviors and ruptures that emerge out of difficult internal emotional states for both couples and individuals.
Some couples come in with significant conflict present; others come in for a "tune up" in order to catch and lessen negative patterns of disconnection in their early stages.
This modality continues to be researched and is considered the most successful treatment model for relationships.
See article below and description below:

Cost for this type of couple session is $175/session and insurance frequently does not cover relationship counseling. I recognize that this requires a financial commitment to your relationship, and I work to make sure couples feel the positive results of not just their investment of money--but of their investment of time, energy and vulnerability as well.
Please contact my office or fill out the contact form for more information, if you are interested in relationship work using EFT.

WHAT IS EFT?
"Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a unique and highly effective form of therapy that helps people understand and improve their emotional connection with themselves and others. Developed in the 1980s, EFT is based on the principle that our emotions are central to our experiences and relationships. It suggests that we are naturally designed to have a secure sense of who we are and a sense of self we can trust and rely on. This solid base allows for strong, supportive bonds with others, and when these bonds are secure, we tend to be happier and healthier.
One of the great things about EFT is its versatility. While it’s widely recognized for helping couples strengthen their relationships (which is known as Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy or EFCT), it’s also extremely beneficial for individuals and families. For individuals, EFT (known as EFIT) can be particularly helpful in dealing with feelings of depression, anxiety, or the emotional aftermath of traumatic events. For families, EFT (EFFT) is used to deepen connections and repair strained relationships, making it an excellent choice for families looking to improve their dynamic.
What makes EFT stand out is its focus on emotions and how we manage and use them. This approach helps people understand their feelings and the feelings of those around them, leading to healthier and more fulfilling relationships. It’s not just about finding quick fixes; it’s about getting to the heart of the matter and creating lasting change.
EFT isn’t just a theory; its effectiveness is backed by extensive clinical research. It’s considered a gold standard in this field."
